Ramp Boost Soft Start
This starting method is the simplest, as shown in Figure 1. It does not have current closed-loop control and only adjusts the thyristor conduction angle to increase it as a function of time. Its disadvantage is that due to the lack of current limitation, during the starting process of the motor, sometimes a large surge current is generated, causing damage to the thyristor, which has a significant impact on the power grid and is rarely applied in practice.
current ramp start
This starting method involves gradually increasing the starting current during the initial stage of motor starting, and maintaining a constant value (t1 to t2 stages) when the current reaches the pre-set value until the start is complete. During the starting process, the rate of current rise and change can be adjusted according to the motor load. If the current rise rate is high, the starting torque is high and the starting time is short. This starting method is the most widely used starting method, especially suitable for starting loads such as fans and pumps.
Step start
Starting, that is, to quickly reach the set value of the starting current in the shortest possible time, is called step starting. By adjusting the setting value of the starting current, a fast starting effect can be achieved.
Pulse shock starting
At the beginning of startup, the thyristor is allowed to conduct at a high current for a short period of time before falling back, and then linearly rise according to the original set value, connected to constant current startup. This starting method is less commonly used in general loads and is suitable for heavy loads and requires overcoming significant static friction.
